FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS :

What is CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)?

Community Supported Agriculture, CSA for short, is a popular way to buy local, seasonal food straight from the farmer who grows it.  A farmer offers a certain number of "shares" of the farm’s bounty, for sale at the beginning of the season. Each week during the designated period, members pick up their pre-purchased weekly box of vegetables. CSA participation provides direct support to small farms who provide local food security.

Orkestai’s CSA members also have the added privilege of providing support to a community of people of All Abilities who are learning how to make sustainable agriculture and good food part of their life.

What produce will Orkestai Farm CSA provide this season? How much will I receive each week?

Each week our members will receive 2-3 bags of restaurant quality cut and washed baby greens, ready to eat out of the bag. In addition to salad, each share will also include 5 or so additional vegetable items. These crops will change with the seasons and will include items like heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, sweet peppers, zucchini, carrots, beets, sweet salad turnips and french breakfast radishes. Members can also expect specialty items such as fresh bulbs of fennel and bunches of herbs like cilantro, dill and parsley.

A note on Salad:  Each bag of restaurant quality salad weighs approximately half a pound. This will provide enough greens for four side servings of salad. As such, each share will have 8-12 salad portions each week. This is enough greens for a couple who eat salad each night, or a family of four who have a smaller portion of salad several times per week.

How much does it cost?

Our vegetable CSA will be split into two separate 10 week subscriptions. The first Spring subscription will run from the first week of June to the first week of August, and the Fall second subscription will run from from the second week in August through the second week of October. Each weekly share is valued at $32.50, bringing the total value of each subscription to $325. Subscriptions to both the Spring and the Fall Shares is $650. At this time, we are accepting payments for one or both of the 10 week subscriptions.

**** NOTE:  SPRING and FALL shares are SOLD OUT.
